Host An Elegant Holiday Party With These Tips
I love to entertain guests, especially around the holidays. What I love almost as much as entertaining is hosting an elegant party, so I want to help you plan an elegant holiday party.
Send Paper Invitations
If you are planning your party in advance, trade in the digital event invitations for traditional paper invitations. I believe it is more elegant to create and mail out invitations than to rely on technology. Are you looking to save money on invitations? You can also look into pre-made invitations or printable templates for your holiday party.
Buffet-Style Hors D’oeuvres
It is easier to serve hors d’oeuvres in a buffet style rather than a sit-down dinner at a holiday party. Your guests can mingle, you are not worried about seating and it feels more sophisticated. You can serve caviar with crackers, shrimp cocktail, cranberry crostini and crab stuffed mushrooms, as well as a platter of cheese, crackers and fruits.
Simple Color Palette
You want to stick with just one or two colors for your holiday party, such as white or pearl and maroon. Your tree should be wrapped in white lights instead of red, green and blue lights. It is also best to keep the decorations to a minimum, as you want to create a sophisticated atmosphere.
Use candles to create a warm glow, and light up conversation spots with table and floor lamps. The overhead lighting should be dimmed or off altogether, except for the chandelier or pendant lights in your dining area. A roaring fireplace is a great addition to any holiday party. If you do not have a fireplace, you can get the same effect from a portable electric fireplace.
